The OpenCASE Media Agent is an optional client-side component providing support for local rights persistence, advanced download functionality and device management. The Media Agent is a component that can be embedded in the OpenCASE Media Player to enable a simplified installation process, and allow the it to run as one process on the consumer’s PC. Alternatively it can be deployed as a standalone application for use with 3rd Party Players. The Media Agent automatically manages all content acquisition and storage. When active on the network it effectively becomes a “listener” for the content delivery streams, acquiring and persisting the assets that the subscriber has expressed interest in.

The OpenCASE Media Agent provides a collection of features and capabilities including:

• User Authentication
  The Media Agent provides a framework for users to authenticate—if required—with the video delivery service and to persist that authentication during the viewing session
• Persistent Download Management
  Download video services—especially those delivering high-definition content--need a way to manage, pause and restart content downloads
• Push Content Delivery
  The ability to automatically deliver serialized content (a weekly TV show for example) in the background is key to a seamless user experience
• Video Content Library Management
  Once delivered, The OpenCASE Media Agent provides a framework for managing a “library” of downloaded content. This is especially import for DRM-protected content
• DRM License Management
  Protected content needs to remain secure and the Media Agent provides a mechanism to do this. By enforcing the DRM license rules on the desktop or device, the Media Agent prevents unauthorized viewing or copying of commercial content
• Downloaded Ad Insertion and Rotation
  The Media Agent also enables downloaded content to be monetized by refreshable advertising. It does this by automatically downloading ads along with the content and inserting them on playback. At a configurable interval, the Media Agent checks with the server for updated advertisements and campaign logic
• Device Synchronization
  

  The Media Agent provides features for synching video content between a PC and portable devices

• Metering and Reporting
  Finally, the Media Agent tracks the progress of downloads, completed or canceled transactions, ad impressions and video playback data. This data is aggregated and periodically sent to the OpenCASE server for reporting purposes. This capability is completely configurable and can be disabled if desired
