OpenCASE CMS
The OpenCASE Content Management System (CMS) is the core of any video distribution service. As the unified repository for video assets and their metadata, it provides carrier-grade infrastructure for managing high-volume commercial video services. To streamline operations, OpenCASE CMS provides an intuitive management console – Production Control – that provides a window into ingestion processes, video metadata editing, flexible workflow and automation configuration capabilities.

Using OpenCASE CMS, the entire production process can be completely automated and managed leveraging the platform’s multi-user, multi-tiered access control for configuration, authorization and approvals. Automation is configured by setting up automation profiles for the following key processes:

  • Describe Profiles:
Specify pre-determined values or editing rules for certain metadata fields that can be applied to assets as they are processed
  • Encoding Profiles:
Specify the target encoding infrastructure (via plug-ins) and configure parameters which describe how, when and where an asset should be transcoded/encoded
  • Encryption Profiles:
Process encoded assets into protected assets according to encryption parameters described in the profile
  • Product Profiles (part of OpenCASE Commerce):
Define the business rules around the productization of assets. They define the ad-supported and/or pay media terms including: advertising rules, price, offer window, DRM rights and conditionals, etc.
  • Distribution Profiles:
Define the locations (usually a CDN) to which processed assets are distributed pending final distribution to end users
  • Automation Profiles:
By grouping multiple profiles together in a sequence, custom end-to-end bulk-processing workflows can be easily configured

The OpenCASE CMS system also includes a robust facility for metering, tracking and reporting on system and user activity. The Production Control console provides reporting functionality that admin users can leverage to select, edit and customize reports, assign automatic report recipients and activate/deactivate reports across a variety of metrics including:

  • Executive Summaries
  • Overall Account Activity
  • Downloads and Streams
  • License Issuance
  • Revenue & Refunds
  • System Logging

Finally, the OpenCASE platform itself is architected to support the rigor of a carrier-grade commercial video service with thousands of assets and millions of potential users. To this end, OpenCASE is built upon an extensible Java architecture and implemented using an industry standard MVC design model. OpenCASE also implements a common services framework that hosts the core business components. In doing so, it exposes OpenCASE’s API and Web Services façade: business objects and integration interfaces for accessing data and functionality within the OpenCASE Product suite.
