ExtendMedia Expands Solutions for Digital Entertainment Retailing with HP
Retailers to Leverage Evolving Digital Entertainment Options with Novel Offerings
BOSTON, MA - (February 7, 2007) - ExtendMedia announced an agreement with HP to develop and market new solutions for retailers of digital entertainment products to meet today's strong demand for broadband content and delivery. As part of the agreement, ExtendMedia is providing its expertise in powering digital media commerce to HP. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
As consumers endorse new ways of accessing digital content, retailers are scrambling to assure that revenue streams from established media formats such as DVD are augmented by new, broadband-based revenue opportunities. Extend's relationship with HP is focused on enabling new broadband content offerings for retailers that give consumers the highest-quality movies, TV shows, games and music in more accessible, convenient and portable options.
"We're thrilled to work with HP on expanding the video download market for retailers and anyone who provides or distributes content," said Jim Geary, CEO and president of ExtendMedia. "By combining HP's extensive background in retail system integration with Extend's flexible platform for content management, we are poised to enable the future of entertainment retailing."
"ExtendMedia's expertise in powering digital media commerce has proven to be a valuable asset to HP and our recently announced Video Merchant Services business," said Willem de Zoete, vice president and general manager, Digital Entertainment Services at HP. "With Extend's help, we're delivering transformative solutions that will enable retailers to monetize new digital media delivery options for entertainment content."
ExtendMedia's flagship OpenCASE® software platform provides broadband content management capabilities for businesses that offer content to consumers - so that businesses can better deliver, control and monetize either on-demand or advertising-supported content. Extend's solutions power digital media commerce for retailers, network operators, networks/studios and content aggregators, including SHOWTIME, ClickStar and Cablevision.
"A few technology 'gotcha's' still exist before brick and mortar retailers can effectively monetize today's new digital entertainment types, whether in-store or online," said Michael Cai, director of access and services at Parks Associates. "HP and ExtendMedia have unique expertise with integrated e-commerce solutions to help retailers meet an evolving technology future - with new offerings that keep digital entertainment content in the consumers' shopping cart."
